The DELF and the DALF, are official diplomas issued by the French Ministry of National Education, to certify foreign candidates’ competence in the French language. The DELF and the DALF are made up of 6 separate diplomas, corresponding to the six levels of the Cadre européen de référence pour les langues (European reference framework for languages)

Tests can be taken in any of the 900 approved examination centres to be found throughout 154 countries including France.
The DELF and DALF certificates take into account:
The DELF and DALF certificates are governed by the national DELF and DALF Commission whose head office is CIEP.
The 6 diplomas which make up the DELF and the DALF are totally independent. In this way, the candidate, depending on his level, can enrol directly for the examination of his choice.
At every level, 4 types of competence are evaluated: oral comprehension and oral production, written comprehension and written production.
